SoDak Con is an annual event dedicated to the appreciation of anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), and other forms of Japanese culture.[1] The event was founded in Rapid City, South Dakota in January 2009 as the Premiere Anime Convention of the Black Hills. The convention programming consists of one main room dedicated to all major events while other smaller rooms host minor events such as fan-run panels and table-top-gaming. The major events consist of cosplay (costume) competition, anime music video contest, and an art contest with various prizes to be awarded to the winners.[2] There is also a dealers room where vendors come to offer related merchandise, and an artists alley where artists offer their handcrafted wares and artwork for sale.[3]
